4 of the UK’s most stylish glamping sites for a stunning staycation

Glamping, or “glamorous camping”, has taken off in a big way since the term was first introduced in the UK back in 2007.

Although the word is relatively new, the concept is thousands of years old. According to GlampingHub, the first yurts date back to around 600 BC, while the first evidence of “luxury” camping comes from 16th-century Scotland, when King James V stayed in a tent filled with soft furnishings and adornments.

When you go glamping, you don’t need to set up your tent or inflate airbeds. Expect all kinds of comforts such as king-size beds, sofas, air conditioning, heating, Wi-Fi, and kitchen facilities – perfect for a stylish staycation.

If this sounds like something you’d like to try, read on to discover four of the most interesting glamping holidays in the UK.

1. Johnny Vegas Vintage Vehicle Glamping, Melbourne Hall, Derbyshire

This site is as quirky and original as the name suggests. Comedian Johnny Vegas brings an eclectic group of lovingly restored vehicles together for his “vintage vehicles” glamping experience. Choose from a bus, boat, or helicopter, each with an individual horsebox bathroom, flushable toilet, and hot shower.

You can access mains electricity, and bedding and towels are also included. The site is on the “Field of Dreams”, where you’ll be welcomed with a tray of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk, and sugar, plus some local treats.

You’ll find plenty of places to eat and drink in the Melbourne Hall Courtyard, serving favourites such as pizzas, cakes, ice cream, and afternoon tea. If you head into nearby Melbourne village, you’ll find an array of pubs, cafés, and shops, including places to stock up on essentials.

Melbourne Hall is a great starting point for walks to nearby attractions like Calke Abbey, Staunton Harold Reservoir, Breedon on the Hill, and the lovely hamlet of Wilson.

Prices vary depending on the time of your visit, with off-peak season in September and October 2025. Find out more about Johnny Vegas Vintage Vehicle Glamping, including how to book.

2. Daskor Treehouse, Cornwall

If you’re looking for a dog-friendly glamping adventure, Daskor Treehouse will welcome you. Tucked away on the edge of the Lizard Peninsula, it boasts beautiful views and a peaceful ambience.

Inside, you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen with a built-in dining bench and a comfortable velvet sofa. The treehouse is also stocked with books, board games, and vinyl to play on the record player, helping you to enjoy a true digital detox.

Two king-size beds offer a luxury alternative to traditional camping sleeping mats, while the large bathroom features an indulgent rainforest shower.

Take a short walk to the waterside village of Gweek, with a welcoming pub and store, while a little further away is the picturesque hamlet of Helford. Here, you can soak up the beautiful river views and enjoy local food and drinks. If you’d like something a little more adventurous, try kayaking, paddleboarding, or boating on the Helford River.

Expect to pay between £198-£248 a night. Find out more about Daskor Treehouse and the surrounding areas.

3. Largo Law, East Neuk of Fife

Choose from one of six luxury cabins based on a working farm overlooking the Firth of Forth. Each features an ensuite toilet and shower, a mini kitchen, TV, and DVD player. Plus, there’s a barbecue and fire pit for outdoor cooking.

Nearby, you can enjoy relaxing walks in nature or cycle around the locality. Take the nature train to Keil’s Den, an area of ancient woodland sprinkled with beautiful flowers and wild garlic.

Upper Largo village features a pretty harbour and long beach for seaside strolls. In Lower Largo, you’ll find a statue of Robinson Crusoe based on Alexander Selkirk, who hailed from the area.

Golf enthusiasts can find the Lundin Links golf course just a short drive away, home to three Bronze Age stones believed to be part of an ancient stone circle. Railway hobbyists can enjoy the Fife Heritage Railway, with regular trips available on the newly restored steam engine.

Prices vary depending on the time of year. Find out more about Largo Law and book your relaxing break in beautiful Scotland.

4. Irfon Pod, Great House Farm, Powys, mid-Wales

One of three pods to choose from on the site of Great House Farm, Irfon is pet-friendly and features an ensuite shower room, central heating, Wi-Fi, and a smart TV. You’ll also find a fully equipped kitchen. The large patio features a relaxing hot tub, a seating area, and facilities for outdoor cooking.

Enjoy beautiful valley views, clear skies, and pure fresh air in this picturesque rural setting. You can walk to the top of Twyn y Garth, where you’ll find a first world war German Howitzer as a memorial to the war. Plus, there are stunning views down into the valley.

Llandeilo Hill is also a great place for scenic panoramas and is just a short walk away from the site. A little further away, you’ll find the famous Brecon Beacons National Park, perfect for hikes and rambles.

Prices vary depending on the time of year. Find out more about Irfon Pod, or the other pods available on site.
