Approaching retirement

Future Planning in 3 words

Friendly, very helpful and efficient.

The reason we got in touch with Future Planning is because my wife and I wanted to retire early from our teaching job, and the teachers’ pension wasn’t going to cover everything we needed, so Sanjay seemed the obvious answer to our worries and our future really.

We were worried that we wouldn’t have enough money from the teachers’ pension to actually make ends meet in the long run. So Sanjay put our investments together and did so well with it that we were able to retire about four years earlier in my case – five years earlier in fact!

Sanjay’s advice most definitely allowed us to retire earlier. In fact, at one stage when we were talking to him about retiring, he said: “You have to retire, as simple as that!”. I was getting to the stage when I was at work where I was waking up in the night and thinking ‘Gosh, when will I get this done, get that done, and will I have time to do it?’ And by retiring early it meant that all that stress was gone and so I was just able to concentrate on getting on with my own life.

Retirement is suiting my wife and I extremely well! It allows us to do what we want, when we want; there’s no stress and we just relax, basically. Because of Sanjay, that is why we’ve been able to do that.

Life changed a huge amount – you’ve just got no worries about it. You just get up and you’re not racing around like a lunatic saying ‘I’ve got to get here, I’ve got to get there’, you can just take life. You can get up in the morning, you can have breakfast, you can read the newspaper, you can do the crossword and then think ‘Ah, what am I going to do today? Well, I’m going to do this…’ and it just makes life that much simpler and less stressful.

We meet Sanjay once a year for an annual review and he’s always there at the end of an email or at the end of the telephone. If we need help or if we’ve got a concern about anything, we just get in touch with him that way and it’s very, very simple.

I would most certainly recommend Future Planning to other people because the staff are friendly, Sanjay’s extremely efficient; he wants to know you as a person and at the end of the day, his advice has been absolutely fantastic and has enabled us to do what we want to do, when we wanted to do it.

Best thing about Future Planning

I think the difference with Sanjay is he actually finds out about you. If you come for a meeting with Sanjay, don’t expect to get it done in half an hour. He will spend 45 minutes to an hour, literally talking about what you’ve done, what you’re interested in, and what’s happened during the year before you get down to the nitty-gritty of why you’re there; to sort things out and check everything’s going fine. And I think that’s the difference. He’s interested in you as a person, unlike these people who do it because they think they ought to. He remembers what you’ve done. There are no notes in front of him. He remembers each individual client. You feel as if you’re important to him. That’s what I would say.

Would you recommend Future Planning?

I most certainly recommend Future Planning to other people because the staff are friendly, and Sanjay is extremely efficient; he wants to know you as a person. At the end of the day, his advice has been absolutely fantastic. He’s enabled us to do what we want to do, when we wanted to do it.
