In your latest team update, our Future Planning family is looking ahead to World Book Day (6 March) and International Women’s Day (8 March), thinking about the books and important women who inspire them. You’ll also learn about our favourite staycation destinations as we mark English Tourist Week (14 – 23 March).
Which books, inspirational women, and English tourist destinations would also appear on your list?
Finally, we undertake constant training and development to ensure we’re always in the best position to help you make the right choices for you.
Starting with Drew…
Drew
“My favourite book is The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday. It’s subtitled 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living and that sums it up really.
“It offers 366 days of insights and exercises in small, digestible chunks. It’s easy to consume and it reinforces my beliefs.
“My inspirational woman would be Joan of Arc – she proved the power of unwavering and extreme confidence. And in terms of my favourite English holiday destination, it would have to be Weston-Super-Mare.
“It’s simple good fun, and easy to get to.”
Drew recently passed his R01 exam in Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics, a core unit for the Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning.
Huge congratulations to Drew for his hard work and continued commitment.
Tyrone
“I don’t really have a favourite book but I have some favourite genres.
“I like fantasy (I particularly enjoyed Malice by John Gwynne), self-improvement, and financial books. Of the latter, a few that spring to mind are Atomic Habits by James Clear and The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel.
“Marian Ilitch is a real inspiration.
“She’s a self-made billionaire who cofounded Little Caesars Pizza. She is helping to build a $1.4 billion sports and entertainment district in Detroit, which includes a new headquarters with pizza-shaped windows.
“She and her husband also “quietly” paid for Rosa Parks’ rent up until she passed away. Her family values and the way she gives back to the community are really inspiring.
“My favourite English holiday destination is Bournemouth. I used to visit there often as a child when my Nan lived there, so I have very fond memories of it.”
Tyrone is currently working towards his Diploma in Financial Planning. He passed his Financial Services, Regulation and Ethics (R01) exam at the start of the year and is currently studying for R05 in Financial Protection.
Tyrone’s dedication is a real inspiration to all of us, so a huge well done!
Sian
“My favourite book growing up was Elma the Elephant, so let’s go with that!
“Catherine the Princess of Wales is a real inspiration to me – from her support of charitable foundations for addiction and mental health to her courage in recently overcoming cancer.
“I love Newquay – for the scenery, food and the people.”
Sian is studying through the CII to become a financial adviser. She too passed R01 and is due to sit R02 shortly so stay tuned for news of how she got on!
Sanjay
“The book I turn to as an adult for self-development is James Clear’s Atomic Habits. It’s sold more than 20 million copies for a reason. As a nerdy child, though, my favourite book was JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit.
“Serena Williams is seen as an incredibly inspirational sportswoman, but she’s more than that.
“Not only did she have an incredible tennis career packed with achievements, but she also overcame burnout, health scares, and injuries, and went on to launch a foundation and find success as an entrepreneur.
“I live in the countryside where it’s peaceful and relaxed, so if I go anywhere for a short break in England then it tends to be London. I like it because there aren’t that many cities like it, at least not ones that compare for the hustle and bustle, the busy restaurants and social scene, and the variety of food, all packed into a condensed space. Having said which, I’m always happy to return home to peace!”
The last two years have been full on and Future Planning has a full year ahead of updating systems and business processes. If I’m ahead of schedule, then I will look to sit an Advanced CII exam.
